Three 5th grades, one at Hollis and two at GEJ, did Mystery Skypes this week! The two GEJ Mystery Skypes were with classes in Massachusetts and North Carolina. The Hollis Mystery Skype was with a class in Tennessee. Everyone did a great job in determining the location of their buddy classes. More Mystery Skypes are coming up - where will we go next???
4th graders are GEJ did a scavenger hunt to help build their book location and library catalog skills! The added twist was that the book titles they were given were written in a secret code and, before they could search for the books, they had to first work with their teams to decipher the code. Everyone was very enthusiastic as they worked together on this fun activity!
3rd graders are continuing to practice and improve their library book location skills!
2nd graders have wrapped up their Goldilocks unit and are now working on comparing different versions of one of my favorite folktales: Stone Soup! After reading Marcia Brown's version of the classic tale, we've begun to compare it to other retellings, including Nail Soup.
Kindergarten and 1st grades are continuing with their author studies. Kindergartners are now learning about the works of Molly Idle, a Caldecott Honor winning author and illustrator.
Our four new bookcases at GEJ were assembled and filled with books! The classes were very surprised and excited to see the new bookcases. The current DonorsChoose project, which will add more bookcases to replace the old ones, is nearing completion!
Activities this coming week include a Skype with an elephant sanctuary for Mrs. Johnson's first grade, who recently completed an elephant themed unit in the library!
I'm looking forward to another fantastic week in the libraries!
